Anyone know this one? Found on the shady side of my house, Gloucester, MA, USA. Overall length about 25 mm (1")

Jim, it looks like a fly of some kind, actually, but I can't help you narrow it down to the species.

I submitted to BugGuide.com and you are right it is not a moth. The good folks there identified it as a Tiger Bee Fly (Xenox tigrinus) Thanks!
